Measured, not estimated

What switching format actually saves

One image, encoded three ways, with the numbers taken from the files themselves.

A 1600 by 1000 screenshot of the Appzo Tools compress page, showing the drag-and-drop upload area and the in-browser processing notice.
The test image: a 1600 × 1000 screenshot, shown here at 800px. Encoded Aug 18, 2026 with sips 316 and cwebp 1.6.0.

PNG (original)245.4 KB—
WEBP, lossless144.1 KB41% smaller
JPG, quality 85161.5 KB34% smaller
WEBP, quality 8544.8 KB82% smaller

Screenshots favour WEBP more than photographs do — for photos, Google’s corpus study puts the saving at 25–34% over JPG. The converter page carries the full sweep and the commands to reproduce it.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Yes, completely free. Every tool works with no sign-up, no watermark, and no paywall, with a 20 MB limit per file and up to 20 files at a time. There is no trial and no paid tier — the tools run on your own device, so there is nothing for us to meter.

For the converter, resizer, compressor, cropper, and rotater — no. Those five run entirely in your browser, so the file never leaves your device. The metadata editor is the one exception, because it needs ExifTool, which has no browser equivalent. To check for yourself, open your browser's developer tools, switch to the Network tab, and process an image: a client-side tool shows no request carrying your file. Every tool page states which of the two applies before you upload anything.

Yes. The converter handles JPG, PNG, and WEBP in any direction, including WEBP to JPG and WEBP to PNG. There are dedicated pages for each conversion if you want the specifics — what happens to transparency, how file size changes, and what the conversion cannot fix.

The main difference is where the work happens. Most online image tools upload your file to a server, process it there, and send it back; five of our six image tools never transmit the file at all. In practice that means no upload wait, no queue, no daily quota, and nothing for us to store. We also publish measured file sizes with the encoders and versions named, rather than quoting percentages you cannot check.

WEBP, for nearly everything. Every current browser supports it, it handles photographs and graphics alike, it keeps transparency, and it is meaningfully smaller than the alternatives. In our own measurement, a 1600 × 1000 screenshot came to 44.8 KB as WEBP against 245.4 KB as PNG — about 82% smaller. Keep JPG or PNG for email templates and print, where WEBP support is still unreliable.

Yes. Every tool is fully responsive and works on phones, tablets, and desktops in any modern browser. Processing happens on the device, so a phone does the work with its own CPU — large files simply take a little longer than they would on a laptop.

No. The browser-based tools never transmit your file, so there is nothing for us to store. The metadata editor writes to a private temporary location only for as long as ExifTool needs to read and write the tags, then removes the file when your session ends. We never keep image content and never share it.
